Will Travel For: Wellness
There was a time when a wellness trip simply alluded to a spa appointment, choosing the egg-white omelet over the pancakes, and committing to a beach read over a doom scroll.
In the ripe year of 2026, the hospitality forces that be have allowed us to take things up a notch. Explore our running list of Fenimore-Lane approved wellness retreats we’d gladly trade some screen time for.
The Ranch Malibu
At The Ranch Malibu, the draw is movement with a view — specifically along the Backbone Trail, a 60-mile ridge line overlooking the Pacific. With an exclusive program running May 31 - June 6, days clock in at 9 to 16 miles (according to my calculations, well over 10k steps) with guided hikes, followed by yoga, massage, and plant-forward meals that make you forget you ever cared about carbs. The program is structured, just intense enough to feel virtuous and self-aware enough to ensure you’re properly pampered once the “movement” concludes.
one&only moonlight basin
One&Only Moonlight Basin is perhaps the most outdoorsy of the bunch. After opening in November as the brand’s first U.S. property, this is officially the resort’s first summer season — arriving just in time for Montana’s wildflower blooms and wildlife birthing season, when baby bison, elk, and fawns begin appearing across the landscape. Days revolve around fly fishing, hiking, horseback riding, Yellowstone safaris, and stargazing at the on-site observatory. Or you could, of course, hang back at the property for the 17,000-square-foot spa, indoor saltwater pool, and outdoor hot/cold therapy circuits designed for post-adventure recovery. The accommodations include cabins and private homes built for multi-generational escape.
SHA Spain
At SHA Wellness Clinic, wellness is approached with the precision of a medical program and the taste level of a luxury hotel. Every element is designed to support how the body restores, rebalances, and performs over time — from evidence-based therapies to sleep-optimized suites calibrated around the body’s circadian rhythm. Set high above the Alicante coast, where sea air and an abundance of natural light become part of the treatment itself, the experience reflects a growing shift toward wellness travel that prioritizes measurable results as much as relaxation.
THE Retreat at the MAYFLOWER INN
Set on 58 acres in the Connecticut countryside, The Retreat at the Mayflower Inn pairs restorative spa programming and expert-led wellness with impeccable interiors and a farm-to-table culinary program (which can, importantly, be ordered directly to the spa). Guided by Auberge’s “Joy of Wellbeing” philosophy, the emphasis is less on optimization and more on retreat: fresh air, deeply comfortable robes, long afternoons by the indoor pool — equally appealing in snow or sunshine — and an unapologetically long jacuzzi session.
